Amigos Bravos Receives Recognition Award
On July 28, 2000 the New Mexico Community Foundation conducted their annual "Grantee Noon Luncheon" at the Radisson Hotel in Albuquerque. Amigos Bravos was one of five outstanding grantees selected by the Foundation. Amigos Bravos Executive Director, Brian Shields made a presentation to over 150 attendees, using slides of projects currently underway including Rio Costilla and Molycorp mine in Questa. NMCF Director, Robert Stark and Program Director, Nelsy Dominguez presented Amigos Bravos with a New Mexico shaped plaque recognizing the organization's outstanding work and commitment to the community. Amigos Bravos attendees included Board Member Michael Coca, Albuquerque Projects Director Cynthia Gomez, and Member Volunteers Margarita Ortega y Gomez and David Douglas. The prestigious award is a reflection of the combined efforts of the Board, staff, members, donors, volunteers and, most importantly, a supportive community.

Congratulations to all.

Cleanups Continue

Amigos Bravos continues with community river cleanups. Katie Woodall conducted several cleanups on the Río this summer and is always on the lookout for new stewards of the river banks. The May cleanup was joined by Jennifer Davidson-Green's eighth-grade history class as part of their Project Citizenship! effort. The cleanups are conducted once a month, from late spring until early fall, on different stretches of the Río Grande. If you or your group are interested in participating, let us know at the office and we will get your name to Katie.

Agua es vida? No. Clean water is life. Enough water is life. Thanks to all who help keep the river clean.

Amigos Bravos' Cash Reserve Fund
Amigos Bravos' Cash Reserve Fund is Amigos Bravos' insurance against hard times. The Cash Reserve Fund is money set aside to ensure that the organization can survive cash flow shortages in the annual operating budget. It can only be accessed for certain purposes, such as meeting payroll or for emergency capital outlay. There are strict guidelines on when and how money from the fund can be used. Any use of money from the Fund requires approval from the Board of Directors. This Fund is a hedge against hard times, ensuring that Amigos Bravos will stay healthy and able to pursue its mission.

Our Cash Reserve account was opened in March 1998 with a $15,000 grant from the Ruth Mott Fund. Thanks to generous contributions of our members and the $5,082 proceeds of Brian Shields, Unframed, the interest bearing account now has a balance of over $24, 222.00. Our goal is to bring the balance up to $50,000.00.

Please consider making a contribution to the Amigos Bravos Cash Reserve Fund.

We're Moving! (but not far)

In the interests of a bit more space and privacy, but in order not to stray far from the center of Taos and its supplies of coffee and other essentials, we are moving our offices from Des Georges Lane to 106 Doña Luz, Taos, on or about September 1st.

Our thanks go to everyone who has been helping with the move, which has involved significantly remodeling and redecorating the new offices: Doug Brown, Contractor; Anthony Perez, Jireh Electric; Bill Vickers and Carl Gandy, Tele-Gard; Dan's Carpet; and our volunteer painters Hope Buechler, Melissa Larsen, Nicole Kowalski, Lyla Johnston, Linda Fair, Ross Ulibarrí and Jay Geiger.

Thank you to everyone for their patience during the move.
