A Call to the Río Grande Community - Raffle for the Río 2002
Water, water everywhere but not a crop to drink...
Dear Amigos Bravos y Amigas Bravas:
Such a dilemma… sitting on the beach looking off the Maui coast at the turquoise and white surf of the warm waters lapping at your feet. Amigos Bravos’ 7th Annual Raffle for the Río is on. The Grand prize is a five day trip for two lucky river lovers to the beautiful Hale Ho’okipa Inn Bed and Breakfast in
upcountry Maui. Waterfalls and windsurfing, rainbows and rodeos, leisurely walks among tropical fruits and dazzling flowers could be yours. Your lucky ticket
purchase will provide funds to help Amigos Bravos continue to meet the Río Grande’s biggest challenges.
Last year Amigos Bravos protected and advocated for the Río Grande by:
• Seeing through our 1998 lawsuit against the US Environmental Protection Agency, which as a result issued a permit to protect the Red River from 15
million pounds of mine pollutants annually;
• Giving crucial organizational and technical support to other groups working to protect New Mexico's rivers, including the Truchas Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Reviva el Río Costilla, and the Gila Resources Information Project.
• Setting the foundation for an agreement on Molycorp's mining permit which removes 2,247 acres from mining activities, requires reclamation to begin in 2002, and establishes 100 acres of revegetation test plots to be established by 2003.

• Return your completed raffle ticket coupon with your check or credit card
number in the enclosed envelope to Amigos Bravos;
• Visit our website at www.amigosbravos.org to place your raffle ticket order online.
New friends: Your ticket purchase includes a one-year membership in Amigos Bravos, Friends of the Wild Rivers. Sorry, it does not renew memberships.
