Because Water Matters — Since 1988

We have a vision of New Mexico’s rivers and streams running so clear and clean that you can bend a knee to the water, cup your hands, and drink without fear.

Midnight Meadows Restoration August 18-20

Midnight Meadows Restoration Weekend
Friday evening, August 18, 2017 thru Sunday morning August 20, 2017

Join Amigos Bravos and the Albuquerque Wildlife Federation for a weekend (or a day) of restoration work at Midnight Meadows, a Wetland Jewel located in the Carson National Forest near Questa, New Mexico. The site is about an hour drive from Taos.

THE PROJECT: Camp out with staff and volunteers from Amigos Bravos and the Albuquerque Wildlife Federation for the whole weekend (Friday night through Sunday morning) or just for the day on Saturday. We welcome all the extra pairs of hands we can get to help us repair and build fencing to protect delicate riparian areas from overgrazing. Midnight Meadows is one of eight priority Wetland Jewels that Amigos Bravos has identified and mapped as an area requiring special protections and restoration priority under the Carson National Forest Plan currently under revision by the Forest Service.

SCHEDULE/GENERAL INFO: Friday evening August 18, 2017 through Sunday morning August 20, 2017 We will meet at the campsite (look for signs along Cabresto Road/Forest Road 134) on Friday evening before sundown.

On Saturday morning, AWF will provide coffee, breakfast burritos, and a project overview/safety talk. We will work Saturday from about 8:30-4:00, and then enjoy a potluck dinner (AWF provides bison or veggie burgers) with a group of cool, committed conservationists around a campfire.

On Sunday, anyone who is able to stay, will work for a few more hours. We hope to finish up no later than noon. Leave as you need to. We're grateful for any help we can get!

Dogs (well socialized, please) and kids are welcome!

GEAR: Bring everything you need for a weekend of camping. For the work, don't forget gloves, hat, long sleeves, long pants, sturdy boots, and sunscreen. Warm clothes for the evenings and plenty of water are essential.

FOOD: Please bring your own dinner for Friday, lunch for Saturday, and a dish to share for the Saturday evening potluck (side, salad, or dessert). On Sunday morning, you're on your own for breakfast, but there are usually plenty of leftovers.
