Volunteering with Amigos Bravos is a great way to help protect and preserve New Mexico’s sacred waters and make a difference in your community.
From volunteering for a community cleanup and advocating with us on an important environmental legislative policy the Santa Fe Roundhouse, to working to restore fragile riparian areas or helping us stuff envelopes for a mailing to our members, Amigos Bravos strives to create opportunities for every New Mexican to protect and preserve New Mexico sacred water and make their voice heard.
Amigos Bravos hosts three main events each year that take a substantial amount of volunteer help. If you’re looking to volunteer with us, you should consider these events as the first, best place to offer your assistance.
Our biggest volunteer event without a doubt, annual Rivers + Lands Cleanup, typically takes place the third weekend in June. Volunteers meet in the parking lot of St. James Episcopal Church in Taos, NM, where they are assigned cleanup areas around Taos County. At midday, volunteers are rewarded with a free lunch.
Rally for the Rio is our annual member appreciation celebration held each summer along the banks of the Rio Grande at County Line river access between Pilar and Riconada. We need volunteers to help with setting up tents and tables, directing attendees with parking, sign in, and scheduling members for their free raft floats. Every year, Amigos Bravos works with the Albuquerque Wildlife Federation, U.S. Forest Service staff, wetland area contractors and a diverse group of volunteers to restore fragile riparian areas to protect the Red River and Rio Grande watersheds.
